Part 3, copy 1 includes four loosely inserted papers: 1) two-page sheet (in the hand of A. Chester Beatty) titled 'Cortlandt Field Bishop Sale', listing 40 lot numbers and their estimated prices, with another column titled 'Bid ACB' with ten price entries, but with one marked 'omit' and another crossed out: eight in total; 2) another list (ACB's hand) titled 'Bishop Sale', with the eight lot entries (seven have lines struck through) and prices paid by Beatty; 3) note card with 'Merton A' in one hand and 'MS 1917' in another (possibly R.J. Hayes); 4) bookmark with the numbers 368 and 369 written on it.
Part 3, copy 1: annotated throughout in the hand of A. Chester Beatty: several lots marked with an 'x' and/or estimated prices; eight lots marked 'Bid' and 'Bought' with prices next to them: lots 1932, Rigaud, 172 engravings [Wep 4087]; 2000, extra-illustrated copy of Saint-Edme. Part 3, copy 1: lot 2157 marked 'Important'; see above list for this lot entry: 'N.B. check in library' [possibly referring to Wep 4033].
Part 3, copy 1: lot 2246: Thomson. Seasons, London, 1797, Bartolozzi and Tomkins engravings, in a mosaic binding by Kraussin [possibly purchased by Herman Marx and later in the possession of Edith and Chester Beatty: BB769].
Part 3, copy 2: annotated at those eight lots from copy 1: lot 1932 ('A.C.D., X.7'; Joan Kingsford Wood's hand), rest with an 'x'; bookmarked at pages 611 (pencil: 'Nov 14') [lots 1841 & 1842 have 'ACB Z.1' pencil note erased] and 724-725 ('Nov 15').
Part 4 includes a loosely inserted pencil note in the hand of Joan Kingsford Wood: 'Jan. 23, 1939. Mr Maggs said there was nothing in this sale. (Courtlandt Bishop, Part 4) Seemed to be entirely remainders from the previous sales. Cabled this to Mr Beatty Jan 23'.
